Leif Mattson Becomes the Quad City Storm Franchise Points Leader

Jan 13, 2026

MOLINE, IL. – Quad City Storm forward Leif Mattson entered Friday night with 170 career points in a Storm sweater. He left Vibrant Arena that same night etched into Storm history.

With 10:21 remaining in the second period of Friday's game against the Pensacola Ice Flyers Leif Mattson assisted on a Devin Sanders goal, his 172nd point in a Storm sweater, officially breaking Tommy Tsicos' franchise points record. The scoring didn’t stop there. Mattson finished the weekend with 9 points (1G, 8A), establishing the new Quad City Storm Franchise Points record at 179. The Manitoba native was also recognized as SPHL Co-Player of the Week with linemate Devin Sanders.

The Quad Cities have become a second home to Mattson who said, “Playing in the Quad Cities these last four years has truly been one of the greatest honors of my career. To have the trust of our organization and fans to go and make an impact on the ice every game-day is something I’ll never take for granted.”

The Storm forward also acknowledges that hockey games aren’t played individually, saying, “Success doesn’t happen without having great teammates by my side and I’ve been lucky enough to have plenty of great teammates over the years to help contribute towards that success.”

In just 150 career games played, Mattson has written himself into the record books, holding the Quad City Storm franchise records in points (179) and goals (79) while ranking second all-time in assists (100), accomplishments that further cement his legacy as one of the greats in Quad City professional hockey history, where he ranks seventh all-time in career points, tied for seventh in goals, and sits just three assists shy of cracking the top-10 in assists.

Accolades aside, Mattson’s legacy is defined by his leadership in the locker room and his pride in wearing the Storm sweater. Head Coach Shayne Toporowski says, “It’s always a nice feeling to put your name in the same sentence as ‘franchise record.’ This is a great accomplishment for Leif and a testament to his time with the Storm. That said, I know he would trade in every point he’s ever scored to bring this fan base a championship.”
