MOLINE, IL - Leif Mattson has added another milestone to his remarkable career with the Quad City Storm, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in assists. The previous record of 109 was held by Storm captain, Tommy Tsicos.
The historic moment came during the second period of Saturday's contest against the Fayetteville Marksmen when Mattson set up Brodie Girod for the Storm’s first goal of the night. The assist serves as another token in what has already become one of the most decorated careers in franchise history. In just 169 games, the Manitoba native now stands alone as the Storm’s all-time leader in all three major scoring categories: 196 points, 85 goals, and 111 assists.
Mattson’s impact extends beyond franchise records. He has cemented himself as one of the most prolific scorers in Quad City professional hockey history, ranking seventh in career points, sixth in goals, and ninth in assists amongst all Mallards, Flames and Storm players.
This season, Mattson ranks second in the SPHL in points (52), third in assists (34) and is currently in the midst of a six-game point streak, which dates back to February 21st. During this stretch of games, "Leifer" has recorded 9 points (3G, 6A).
