Devin Sanders and Leif Mattson named Warrior/SPHL Co-Players of the Week

MOLINE, IL. – The SPHL has named Quad City Storm forward duo Devin Sanders and Leif Mattson as the Warrior Hockey Co-Players of the Week for January 5-January 11. The honor marks the first SPHL Player of the Week recognition for Sanders and the fifth career selection for Mattson.

Devin Sanders and Leif Mattson made an instant impact on the scoresheet this weekend, connecting on a Devin Sanders goal just 12 minutes into the first period to take a 2-0 lead over the Ice Flyers. The pair would strike again at the 9:39 mark of the second period, when Mattson found Sanders in the slot for a historic tally. Sanders’ goal gave Mattson his 173rd career point with the Storm, becoming the franchise’s new all-time points leader. Devin Sanders would finish the night with four points, recording his first professional hat trick, and adding an assist, while Mattson added five assists to lead the Storm to Friday's 7-5 victory.

Mattson and Sanders connected once again in the Storm's lone goal on Saturday night's loss before erupting once again on Sunday afternoon. Mattson closed out the weekend with a three-point performance (1G, 2A), while Sanders added one goal and one assist in the Storm’s 5-1 series clinching win.

Sanders' 16 goals on the season finds him just one away from the league lead while Mattson ranks second in the SPHL in points (35) and third in assists (23) and player rating (+13)
